Desa Kayuputih, the homebase of Villa Kembang Kertas, is still a very authentic village, where the women gather dry sticks for the fire to cook their daily rice; and the men work in the rice fields or in construction or watch the women work. They cut the grass for their cows and they talk. Many of the middle-aged and older women seldom leave the desa. They have little money, but they are happy.

The distance from Kayuputih to Lovina is only 2.5 kilometers, which takes 10 minutes by car. Lovina is well known all over the world. It’s a small coastal area with many hotels, restaurants, shops, and nowadays even discotheques. On the black volcanic sand beaches, friendly vendors sell sarongs, wood carvings, massages, dolphin-watching tours, and more. Lovina is totally different from the tourist hotspots like Kuta, and the nature is so much more beautiful. If you wish, bikes and scooters are available for rent. North Bali will not disappoint!

There is so much to do. The all time favorite in Lovina is dolphin watching. Right in front of our door fishermen go every morning at around 6 o’clock with their perahu (small boat) to the sea with guests to see dolphins. Often you see hundreds of them jumping near your boat. And directly after your dolphin tour, you can snorkel the reef. Diving lessons are available in the Villa swimming pool, you can get your PADI certification in just a couple of days.

If fishing is your thing, you can go tuna fishing with the local fishermen, or you can also rent a boat for a leisurely sail along the coast to find a nice restaurant on the beach for lunch. If you’re a lover of nature, there are many eco trips to magnificent ricefields, waterfalls and coffee plantations. Nature is also well represented in the Mundur tour. Via the most beautiful rice fields of the area you come to Bedugul with breathtaking lakes, a large market, a very interesting temple, and a fascinating botanical garden. If you are a golfer, you won’t want to miss the famous Handara Golf Club, situated in a volcano at a height of about 1000 metres.

Gitgit (Bali’s most famous waterfall), and Singaraja (the former capital under Dutch rule) are both within a 30 minute drive of the Villa. There are some lovely restaurants in the Singaraja harbour, overlooking the Bali Sea, a market, and even a Carrefour Supermarket.

Heading from Lovina to the west, there is at 15 minute  driving distance to the hot springs of Banjar and a large Buddhist temple. You will pass the vineyards, pearl nursery, the well known Pulaki Temple, and finally Menjangan, a favorite for snorkeling and diving, in the shadow of the large volcanoes of Java.

Villa Kembang Kertas is an excellent starting point to discover all that Bali has to offer, especially if you wake up a early, to visit places like Ubud, Sanur, Tanah Lot, Jimbaran, Denpasar, Kintamani, the mother temple Besakhi etc. Cooking and painting instruction, Balinese dancing, a Gamelan orchestra, diving instruction and much more are all available for your enjoyment. We are always happy to organize day trips and activities at your request.
